Bathroom Floor Tiles

When you design or remodel a bathroom, you’ll want to pay careful attention to the bathroom floor tiles you will be installing. This can help to transform your bathroom floor into something very special. Whether you are designing a bathroom for a child, or a master bathroom with a contemporary style, your floor tile patterns will look different. You can use traditional-looking floor tiles in ways other than traditional ways, to create a floor that really makes your bathroom design stand out.

One way you can change a traditional floor to make it more original is to combine two different materials in the same size and shape. This adds color to the floor, and can work especially well in a child’s bathroom. You can achieve this design by using two inch mosaic tiles made from stone or porcelain, and glass tiles that are the same size and pattern. Make sure that your glass tiles are of the same thickness as your field tiles, so that they will lay even on the same level. As you lay the field tiles, pop some off from their netting and place glass tiles in those spaces. This will help to create a flowered pattern, or a wave pattern that goes around the edge of the room.

You can also achieve a great look by using twelve inch mosaic tiles and sheets of polished stone or glass mosaic. Replace occasional squares with mosaic tiles, to create colored sections that shimmer. Each tile can catch light, which creates a sparkling effect.

You can also create a unique floor appeal by using mosaic bathroom floor tiles of differing materials, textures or colors, and cut their sheets into various shapes. Star-bursts, triangles and diamonds can be created by piecing together different shapes and colors. To take this idea to its fullest effect, sketch the layout before you install your tiles. Use the shapes to see what the best fit will be, before you install the tiles. In addition, do a layout with dry tiles before you install them, to be sure that the patterns work.

If you have a large bathroom, you can create small “rugs” made from tiles, in front of the toilet, sink and tub. Use larger tiles to make up the floor’s field, and then create a rug in front of each fixture. Mosaics will help to make your bathroom floor more slip resistant, along with the multiple lines of grout, so that the look can double as a precautionary safety measure in homes with people prone to falls, or in homes with small children.

You can mix different textures, materials and sizes on your bathroom floor, to create a truly unique look. Use some of the same materials on the walls of the shower, too, or as a border that goes around the room. Always make sure that you do a dry layout, or perhaps tape off the areas where you want to design a rug from tiles, to make sure it will fit before you tile it. Use your imagination, and your bathroom floor tiles will create a design that you can enjoy for years and years.
